Central Park crowd honors Broadway star Kyle Jean-Baptiste

More than 100 people circled Central Park’s Bethesda Fountain Monday to salute a blazing star and Broadway history maker who died after a tragic fall from his Brooklyn fire escape.

Kyle Jean-Baptiste was remembered by family and friends as a remarkable talent who inspired his fellow actors with his unending drive and congenial personality.

Jean-Baptiste, 21, fell to his death early Saturday morning, weeks after he stepped on stage as Valjean in “Les Miserables,” the youngest actor and first black to play the coveted role.

“He was just like a meteor,” said Anthony Lyn, 50, the show’s associate director.

“It sounds cliche but that’s how his life was. He burned so bright and we had him for such a brief amount of time.”

The Imperial Theater, which is hosting “Les Miserables,” will dim its lights Tuesday at 10:15 pm. following the evening performance to honor Jean-Baptiste, a spokeswoman said.
