Just married! Stephanie Tallent got hitched, and then was pushed into the maternity ward, where she gave birth less than two hours later.

She was not about to give birth without getting married.

Texas mom-to-be Stephanie Tallent was getting a routine ultrasound at a Houston hospital when the nurse made a non-routine announcement. The 41-year-old was in active labor, the nurse said, and her cervix was dilated five centimeters.

Her scheduled Caesarean section was three weeks away.

“I was really excited for the appointment,” Tallent told People. “It was a growth ultrasound, and I was excited to find out how much the baby weighed. I had no idea it would turn into this.”

“This” turned out to be a wedding and a birth all in the same day.

Tallent told her obstetrician, Dr. Karla Wagner, that she really needed to get married before her baby arrived.

Her doctor was a little taken aback, but agreed to a service, just as long as it was quick. Wagner told nurses and other staff members, and then everything began falling into place.

The hospital chaplain was paged on the hospital intercom. Dad and groom Jason Nice fetched a white maternity dress from the car, which had been headed for the cleaners. He also grabbed the couple’s wedding license, which they’d picked up the day before, the magazine reported Wednesday.

About 25 hospital staff assembled for the vows last Friday. A nurse loaned Tallent a pearl necklace so she would have “something borrowed” and another presented a blue ribbon.

A nurse played Mendelssohn’s “Wedding March” on her cell phone as Wagner walked the bride into an exam room where Chaplain Johnna Faber was waiting with Nice.

“The ceremony was very beautiful. It was an emotional moment,” said Wagner.

And then it was on to more pressing matters. Like the delivery room.

Tallent was tucked into a wheelchair. “They put a sign on it that said ‘Just Married,’ and away I went,” the bride said.

Baby Sophia, weighing in at 6 pounds, 3 ounces, arrived less than two hours later.
