Changes seem to be in store on the road ahead.

SHE MAY BE WISHING FOR A GETAWAY

I dreamt my boyfriend and I were driving on a familiar road with a bend and a farm. We lost control on the turn, flew off the road and were tumbling in the car. When it stopped, my boyfriend’s sister’s boyfriend was standing there and his face morphed into something evil. The setting changed to my boyfriend and me in a large, enclosed space. I felt something alter within me and I filled with fear. I looked at myself and watched my face turn to the sister’s boyfriend’s evil face. I was looking into my boyfriend’s eyes when I flew violently backwards and upwards until I awakened. What does this mean?

Shaena M., Manhattan

Analysis: In this relationship dream, complacency is overridden by troubling introspection: The road ahead is not straight. It has a bend: An emotional kink, as it were, knocks you for a loop. The morphing face indicates the wish for change. Filling with fear within an enclosed space signifies control issues but also the claustrophobic nature of the relationship. This recognition is what causes your change of face and eventual withdrawal. The wish to leave the scene to fly up, up and away — is paramount.

LOOKING FOR A FRESH START

I recently dreamt that I knew I was going to die, so I picked out a dress for the funeral. The dress I picked out was one of my Sunday school dresses that I owned as a child. (I am now 30.) I asked my mother if she would miss me. She was crying and said yes. Then I gave away all my clothes. Please interpret this dream.

Natasha D., Grand Cayman

Analysis: Thoughts of dying in dreams generally reveal the wish to transition from the old self to the new. This explains the giving away of all your clothing: The desire here is to start afresh. The wish to terminate something in your life such as a job or a relationship or leaving home is often fraught with guilt. To this end, your crying mother is referenced as a sign of the guilt often associated with leaving the roost and becoming independent.
