Tommy Chong’s claim to fame was marijuana. Now, he’s using it to treat his second battle with cancer.

“I got diagnosed with rectal cancer,” he told Us Weekly on Tuesday at the 826LA’s 10th Anniversary Gala in Santa Monica, Calif. “I’m using cannabis like crazy now, more so than ever before.”

The 77-year-old “Cheech & Chong” star is well known for toking up in his comedy films. Off-screen he’s been a vocal advocate for the decriminalization of the drug and used it for relief during his first round of life-threatening disease in 2012 when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“I’m treating it with hemp oil, with cannabis,” he said in an interview with CNN at the time. “So (legalizing marijuana) means a lot more to me than just being able to smoke a joint without being arrested … I’m taking it as a medicine. Cannabis is a cure.”

His medicinal use of weed appears to have had positive effects on the comedian, who was cast for season 19 of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” two years after his first diagnosis. In fact, he is the oldest contestant to make it to week 10 of the competition before being eliminated in the semifinals.

“I just showed old stoners can perform when they need to,” the “Up in Smoke” star said on his final show, to thunderous applause.

He took to Twitter Wednesday to post light-hearted messages about his battle.

“The good news is I now have to use more marijuana to treat the cancer,” he wrote and later added, “Please wish me luck while I kick cancer’s behind. Thank you for all of your love and support.”
